Social Determinants of Health, Certificate

The Social Determinants of Health Certificate enhances awareness of the impact of social environment on health, including the effect of discrimination, socioeconomic status, gender/sexuality, housing, employment, and adverse childhood experiences. An understanding of these determinants is critical to providing quality care to patients and community members, can improve employability, effective health promotion programs, and collaboration in healthcare, social services, public health, education, and business sectors.

To satisfy the program’s 18-credit requirement, 15 credits must be earned by completing the program’s core courses, the remaining 3 credits can be satisfied by completing any other 100-200 level courses or 300-400 level courses among the program’s electives. Students must complete 18 credits to receive the certificate.
