This Cultural Competency Certificate provides training in cultural competency, the knowledge and skills needed to communicate and provide care to increasingly diverse populations. A specific focus is placed on health disparities, and the underlying social, cultural, economic, and policy related factors that contribute to health and illness. Skills emphasize the role of empathy and humility, and the practice of self-reflection in a process of lifelong learning.

To satisfy the program’s 18-credit requirement, 15 credits must be earned by completing the program’s core courses, the remaining 3 credits can be satisfied by completing any other 100-200 level courses or 300-400 level courses among the program’s electives.
